Making the soundhole (and a completely new top)
I decided to make the soundhole similar to the octave mandola so I went for an oval hole and an inlay instead of a common rosette.
It's all handwork with knives and chisels and demands a lot of concentration. In the middle of the process I found damages in the top and decided to replace it. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures, but I hand planed, glued and sawed a new top and did the hole process again. As I was a bit careless, I didn't get the precision I wanted, so I had to remove the veneer, slightly enlarge the shape and insert a new inlay. This third time I was content...
The wood in the inlay is laburnum (gullregn in Swedish) that has grown locally in Stockholm.
