Putting the rim together

The sides have been bent and shaped earlier so now it's time to make the other parts of the rim and put it al together. Here is the piece that will become the neck block. Three pieces of thinner african mahogany (as the rest of the rim and the neck) glued together.
 
 
 

 
Here it is after some shaping on the band saw and with hand tools. The way I will make the rim is very much inspired by British luthier Dave White. One example is the slot in the neck block where the upper part of the neck will continue and add support for the fretboard (which will not be glued to the top).
 
 
Here I glue the neck block to the sides:
 

Then I shape the tail block. Here it is together with two carbon fibre rods that will connect the neck block with the tail block. A kind of "neckthrough"-construction for an acoustic instrument. The aim is to add stability to the body and especially taking up the stress caused by string tension (just as the longitudinal braces for the top).
